5 Reasons to try K-BEAUTY

Korean beauty has taken the world by storm, and rightly so. K-beauty is praised for being 12 years ahead of skincare innovation globally. This is not surprising for those in the know about the Korean beauty industry, as they have long been the leaders in innovation in the global market. Korea lives and breathes beauty, reflected in the perfect porcelain faces of every Korean I walked past. South Korean women spend up to twice as much on beauty than their western counterparts and SK men spend three times more (though the bar for western men is perpetually low for this one). If you have never heard about Korean skincare and beauty, here are five reasons why you should start making the switch to Korean beauty.

1. They are way more advanced than Western skincare

You may have heard in the last year or so, stores like Mecca and Sephora are starting to things called sheet masks to cushion foundations; all of these now-essential beauty staples originating from Korea. The cushion foundation, for example, is a travel friendly compact that makes it easier for women to touch up their foundation throughout the day. While Australia is just starting to have access to this product, Korea had it 12 years ago and in much cuter packaging. From innovative formulations to aesthetic packaging, the Korean beauty market is a wonderland of products that are never be seen anywhere else.

2. They have gentle formulations

Due to the crazy amount of pollution in South Korea, their population has naturally sensitive skin. Consequently, because of their extensive market of skincare, brands that don’t formulate with good ingredients just won’t survive in Korea. Furthermore, historically Korean beauty has always had a focus on natural ingredients passed down from generation to generation. This tradition continues today with strict formulations that stays clear from harsh chemicals and focuses on natural ingredients. So, for my sensitive skin subscribers, Korean beauty has the ‘all clear.’

3. They are made with only the best ingredients

As stated above, Koreans pay great attention to what they put onto their faces, and only the best ingredients will make the cut. Korean beauty products usually incorporate natural ingredients such as volcanic clay, green tea, liquorish, honey and yes… snail extract. I know it sounds gross, but snail extract is actually packed with beneficial ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycoprotein enzymes that helps the skin heal from dark spots to acne. Koreans aren’t afraid to try out new ingredients, giving their products an innovative edge that Western skincare cannot provide.

4. They are highly affordable

I think especially in Australia, cheaper skincare is never good for you. I’m looking at you Mario Badescu (filled with harsh and cheap chemicals). So, unfortunately for our wallets, to get a good skincare routine going it is going to cost a lot of money. The brands that are recommended to us cost at least $150 for a serum. Luckily, the competition among beauty brands in Korea is much like the hunger games, which helps keep the prices of beauty low without sacrificing quality. You can easily purchase a quality serum for $20-$50, making the switch to Korean beauty products is something your skin and wallet will thank you for.

5. They are nothing short of miracle workers.

If you ever doubt the effectiveness of Korean beauty products and want to see proof, just take a look at the flawless, porcelain-like skin of their celebrities. I swear some of these men and women defy time because they never age a day. A 40yr old actor can easily look in his 20s. So, whatever is in their skincare sign me up! It is the combination of highly effective Korean beauty products and a strict Korean skincare regime (to be shared here on the Blog very soon!).

Hopefully these five reasons have convinced you why you should start making the switch to Korean beauty. Stay tuned for my next blog post about the Korean 10-step routine!
