Where to Start

As the title foretells, this is the first post of my blog ‘Areum’; a place I hope to share my love of skincare and makeup. Like you, I want to learn more about this fast-developing world of beauty, which can seem quite overwhelming to any beginner. Many friends and family have asked me for tips and tricks, so I finally decided to develop this blog for those completely lost in the world of skincare. My own skincare journey made me realise how confusing this whole industry is. Especially when I discovered the world of Korean beauty.

My journey into skincare started younger than most, having had eczema as a child. Consequently, I had to start from a young age using and being knowledgeable about skincare, unless I wanted to end up as a flaky little prune.

Slowly but surely my fascination with skincare grew until I discovered Korean beauty (inspiring my university exchange to Seoul). I thought I was beauty obsessed until I experienced South Korea. Seoul is beauty personified. If you don’t believe me, look up a Korean 10-step skincare routine. Before you freak out because you only use a moisturiser from your local supermarket, it’s ok that’s what I want this blog to help you with. I have tried and tested K-beauty and am a true believer.

My love of clean beauty started quite recently. In 2020, I got Perioral dermatitis (a sort of rash around the nose area – p.s. sorry to gross you out). Well guess what that is caused by… it is unknown. It could have been a reaction from makeup to skincare to food. Whatever it was, I changed everything and started looking into cleaner beauty brands. Now that I have helped my skin recover from the dermatitis, I have combined love of Korean and clean beauty into my current routine.

Whether you’re reading this blog to start your journey into skincare, improve your current one, or simply learn about clean/Korean beauty, this blog will do this and more. I hope we can learn together about beauty and all achieve that clear, glowing, glass skin that we all really want.
